No - Not This

I wrote this just over 4 years ago and talked about Apple moving to becoming a direct service provider. And here we are 4 years later - and Apple is still not a direct service provider … except - did you spot thatΒ Virgin Mobile Partners with Apple to Go iPhone-only with $1 Service Specifically

Virgin Mobile USA has partnered with Apple to become the first iPhone-only carrier, and it’s offering a deal that seems almost too good to be true.

Here’s the Press Release

β€œWe’re thrilled Virgin Mobile is becoming the first iPhone-only carrier, and we’re excited to be able to offer Virgin Mobile services directly to our customers in Apple stores,”

Phil Schiller

So - is this the start … finally? (Caveat - Virgin runs on Sprint - the only US carrier I have never used - for obvious reasons.)

BTW - this is a great read from Horace Dediu … and this is so prescient - written 9 years ago … you would be forgiven for thinking it was just published.
